Udupi, Jun 9: Bishop of Udupi diocese Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo has issued a circular notifying that common worship and other religious activities in the churches of Udupi district will not be held till June 30.

The bishop, who is also the president of United Christian Forum, Udupi, in the circular said, “The government of Karnataka has allowed the churches, which were barred from having any communitarian religious celebrations for the past 70 days due to Covid-19 pandemic, to resume worship and other activities from June 8. We are grateful to our state government for this opportunity.

“When the lockdown was imposed in India, the number of people infected by Covid-19 was minimal. Today the number has crossed 2,50,000. Approximately 10,000 people are getting infected daily. The situation in Karnataka is moving from bad to worse. Udupi, which, initially, was declared a ‘Green Zone’ has reached the top of the list of the infected in Karnataka with more than 6,000 patients.

“Taking into consideration the present situation, even though the state government has granted permission, considering the health and safety of our people as of paramount importance, the United Christian Forum for Human Rights, Udupi, has decided not to conduct common worship and other religious activities in the churches of Udupi district till June 30, 2020. Nevertheless, the churches will be open for the devotees who, with all necessary precautions, may visit the churches for personal prayer. This was decided by the Forum in a meeting held at Bishop’s House, Udupi, on Tuesday June 9 in which the heads of the Udupi Catholic Diocese, United Basel Mission Churches (UBM), Church of South India (CSI), Full Gospel Pastors’ Association and leaders of other churches and denominations were present.

“It was also unanimously decided to review the situation on June 30 to decide the future course of action. The church leaders appealed to everyone to show Christian charity by taking maximum care in not infecting anyone with Covid-19 and cooperate with the government in containing the pandemic,” stated the bishop in the circular.

Places of prayer and worships are believed to be places where sick and weak draw healing power. Now faithful have to apply their mind.

I feel its for the people to decide whether go to mosque, church or temple to pray. If you want yourself as your family to be healthy avoid going to these places and pray from your home. God is present everywhere .

A good decision taken by Bishop of Udupi to open Churches after June 30th. But Bishop of Mangalore has decided to open churches from June 13th. But I don't think it is a right decision to open churches in Mangalore on 13th of June. It would be good to open after June 30th .seeing the current situation of Corona in the two Districts.

Praying from place where we are is according to Bible. Faith and belief is required. Now online prayers are going on and same may be continued for believers. There is no point in gathering where customers practices are discontinued in the interest of people. Jesus came to save including gentiles

No prayers no protection from God, so pray more from home and drive covid 19 away so that all worship places would open at the earliest and that these Communist Chinese will not bring more viruses out to control the world or to control the places of worship again.

In this critical period, to minimize the risk of spreading infection, Holy Mass or preaching can be given through Microsoft team or through Youtube or any such available devises. It serves the purpose of growing in faith and wisdom.

In western countries, your religion is not considered important for sitting together and eating and even law enforcement agencies will not arrest you based on your religion either majority or minority. For them, everyone is equal as per the law be he a politician, businessman, commoner, etc. if he does not follow the regulations.

In India, the scale is tilted, politicians are free to do anything in the COVID situations (even now the government is planning to have separate flights for them with airforce pilots) they are above law.

Some religions are exempt and others are held in contempt. This also applies to people and their religious belonging. Even eating food in other religions restaurants or homes is taboo.

In this poisonous situation, it will not be wonder we follow the shutting down for another 6 months or year is better. Rather than becoming a victim by attending religious services, it is better to sit at home and pray or eat. God is everywhere why only at a religious place. Even government opened temples and the liquor shops to recoup the money and not any love for the people

So why talk about westerners as we are not dependant on them.

If everybody think of there safety...no one will be in field..either doctors, nurses, police personnels, media people, bankers etc etc. Vaccine is not going to find upto a year. We need excuses to go out after sitting three month at home. Recovery rate is now much good. May be 60% people are on road every time.
