Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 6: On the 74th day of the lockdown, 24 new cases of novel coronavirus were reported in Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Saturday June 6. As many as 121 cases were detected in Udupi. Three and 101 people who had recovered were discharged in DK and Udupi district respectively.
As reported earlier, In the 24 people tested positive in Dakshina Kannada, there are 17 males and seven females, including three children. Eleven are Maharashtra returnees, the source of infection of five people is yet to be traced, six people have come from Dubai, one person from Ukraine and Turkey and another one from Saudi Arabia. Three people were discharged. Three men who had recovered were discharged on Saturday.
In Dakshina Kannada, a total of 42,867 people including 66 on Saturday have been screened so far. A total of 9,388 samples have been sent for tests so far, out of which reports of 9,139 have tested negative, and 175 positive, excluding 10 persons from another district. Out of these, 77 are currently active. As many as 91 persons have recovered and been discharged, and seven deaths have occurred so far.
As many as 54 samples were sent for testing on Saturday. Reports of 30 samples were received on Saturday, of which 24 were positive and six negative.
Reports of 20 samples are awaited. As many as 10 people have been admitted for observation.
A total of 5,018 people have been treated at fever clinics so far. On Saturday, two cases of severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) were reported.
Udupi
As many as 121 people tested positive in Udupi on Saturday. Seventy-eight males and 43 females including 16 children tested positive. All have travelled from Maharashtra and were under quarantine. While 120 of them hail from Udupi, one is from Dakshina Kannada. As many as 101 people who had cured were discharged on Saturday.
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,306 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, including 36 on Saturday, and a total of 4,829 have completed 14 days of quarantine. As many as 132 persons are currently in home quarantine and another 80 are under institutional quarantine.
Altogether, three high-risk persons and one low-risk person is under hospital quarantine. A total of 74 people are in isolation wards, including 12 fresh admissions on Saturday. Among them, seven are coronavirus suspects, while two have SARI and three influenza like illness.
As many as 764 people, including six on Saturday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 12,528 samples have been collected so far. Out of them, 11,218 samples have turned out to be negative, including 226 on Saturday, and 422 reports are awaited. As many as 888 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district. A total of 233 among them have been discharged, and 654 are active. One death has occurred so far.
