Mangaluru Jun 5: MLC Ivan D’Souza urged the government to come up with concrete policy and avoid creating confusion on the issue of reopening of schools.

Addressing the media here on Friday June 5, he said, “Due to relaxation of lockdown, the cases in the country and the state have increased. In a single day, 9,300 cases were reported in the nation and from the 38th position, today we are on the 7th position in the world.

“In spite of a steep increase in the number of cases, the state government has failed to take a firm stand on the reopening of schools and created lot of confusion. Under the current circumstances, what was the urgency to announce about the reopening of schools? Keeping sophisticated private schools in mind, the government has decided to reopen the schools but what about the schools in rural areas and the situation they face?

“The minister had announced the decision to start the schools in three phases which created confusion among school administrations as well as the parents. I urge the government to come up with a firm policy and avoid confusion about the reopening of schools.

“The government has spoken about conducting online classes. Here, we should understand that all the students cannot access internet and attend online classes. The chief minister did not announce any package for education during this Covid pandemic. The government has not allotted any amount for students.

“What is the urgency to start schools? During the rainy season it is common among small children to have cough, fever, cold. In such cases, where they will be sent? If any one student tests positive in the school, will the parents be ready to send their children to that school again? Questioned Ivan D’Souza.

He also urged the government to withdraw the decision for seats recalled under RTE.

Congress leaders Sahul Hameed, Ibrahim Kodijal and others were present.

How to send our kids to school? Is it possible for every parent to drop and pick their kids to and from school? Before there were options like school bus, vans etc, now because of social distancing it is possible to send them to school like before?

The worst part is, during this crucial stage St. Aloysius PU college is planning to cut down their staff, rumours were that they will not be paid, not even half the salary and they have to take up classes online. They say that they don't have money to pay the wages, but they have not stopped collecting fees from students. They have been collecting funds in the name of charity, but they don't care about their staff. Crores of money have been added to the funds, there will be nothing accounted for. Lot of money is collected as donation from each student when they join 1st PUC, and they say they don't have money.

These are our priests, who teach lot of things to people and fail to do good things.

Looks like this person woke up from sleep late. The govt has already told that schools will opened only after consulting parents and decision to start schools in the month of July is already been withdrawn by the govt.

    People,

Ivan and Shobhakka should do a joint 'Press Meat' ...debate and discuss issues....and people should decide winners and looser's....

Looser should be forbidden from conducting 'Press Meat' for at lest one year...

So unnecessary noise in media could be avoided...Perhaps 'Nehru AKA Central Maidan; is right venue to conduct this 'press meat'...

    ...Tak...Takk...

I suggest all the commercial schools to be closed down ! what we learnt from this covid is ACADEMIC achievements are BOGUS not yielding any helps in REAL LOGICAL LIFE !! Instead we should start real life productive education in SCHOOLS who can build a strong India and Make In India.

Please IVANA advise THE AUTHORITIES that every school should have one nurse and one dietitian who can teach the school children about hygiene and awareness in nutrient food for healthy life to avoid the early diabetic and related complication in life.

There are music, karate, dance teacher and other teachers work for temporary hourly basis. They should be paid some compensation at this critical time.

They are jobless from the month of February. Schools shouldn't take their service for granted.

I truly admire this non corrupt honest politician. Though be never ever won anything, he carries himself like a top neta with clean and shining clothes. And also takes up the case opposing students having to go to school. He is a role model for all these kids who wont go to school due to the lock down

MR.IVANA ! You should suggest not ask the questions ? We have to work together as one nation in order to come over from the pandemic which is most concern of everyone !! Schools should have separate nurse to observe the students and report submitted to the concern department on daily basis. which should be made mandatory to each and every schools which should continue even after pandemic get over. One separate syllabus to be introduced on the PERSONAL HYGIENE and BEHAVIORAL ATTITUDE IN PUBLIC PLACES. ( with regard to the hygiene )

In a dynamic situation that we are facing, it is difficult to take a firm decision. most of the decisions are tentative and they get changed later. It is also difficult to take all parents on Board. There are parents who are not willing to send their children to school unless the count become zero. while some parents are willing to send when the curve gets flattenned somewhat. what if the virus cases remain for another two to three years? very difficult decision.
