Belagavi,Jun 4: A person from Hubballi had died at Mumbai. The family which was transporting the body to Hubballi for cremation was denied entry at Maharashtra border. Therefore, the family performed the cremation at Koganoli village limits on Maharashtra - Karnataka border.

Vijayakumar Kalage (63) settled down at Mumbai since the last many years, had died of heart attack on Monday. His family members bringing his body to Hubballi for the last rites were stopped by the police at the border check post at Koganoli near Nipani. They advised the family to cremate the body there. With no other option, the family members of Kalagi cremated the mortal remains on the bank of river Doodhganga at Koganoli village. Koganoli gram panchayat member, Maruti Molikar, provided all the material needed for the funeral to the family as a humanitarian gesture.

In the past too, four bodies of persons of Karnataka origin who died at Mumbai, had been denied passage to Karnataka at the border.
