Vande Bharat Mission: Phase 2 in Karnataka to begin with Dubai-Mangaluru flight on May 18

Bengaluru, May 17 (IANS): In the second phase of Vande Bharat Mission, national carrier Air India and its subsidiary Air India Express will fly in more Indians stranded abaroad to Karnataka in 18 evacuation flights from Monday to June 3, an official said Sunday.

"The first flight in the second phase of the mission to Karnataka will be from Dubai to Mangaluru by Air India Express on Monday evening and the remaining 17 flights will land in Bengaluru over the next 17 days," an Air India official told IANS here.

In the first phase of the mission from May 7-17, the airline and its arm flew 6 flights to the state from May 11-15, bringing in 800 passengers, including 623 to the state capital and 177 to Mangaluru from London, Singapore, San Francisco and Dubai.

"In the second phase, Air India will operate 15 flights and its arm 3 flights to Bengaluru and Mangaluru from May 18-June 3. Some of the flights will be via New Delhi and Mumbai from different overseas destinations," said the official.

As per Union Ministry of Home Affairs' guidelines, priority to fly back is given first to the stranded citizens in various countries the world over since March 23 when international flights were suspended and due to the nationwide lockdown since March 25 and its extension twice till May 17.

"Besides stranded citizens of the state, priority is being given to distressed Indian expatriates stuck after job loss, especially in the Gulf region, students, tourists, senior citizens, pregnant women and medical emergency cases," the official said.

The 15 foreign destinations from where passengers will be ferried back are Melbourne (Australia), Toronto and Vancouver (Canada), Paris, Frankfurt (Germany), Jakarta, Dublin, Kuala Lumpur, Male, Muscat, Manila, Doha, Dammam (Saudi Arabia), Singapore, Dubai and New York, San Francisco and Washington DC.

"Though only asymptomatic passengers are being flown in, they will be screened and tested on landing and quarantined for 14 days before going home as per the mandatory of the Union Health Ministry to ensure the virus is not spread," added the official.

The state government has booked star hotels, resorts, guest houses and hostels across the city to quarantine the overseas returnees for 14 days.

Of the 18 flights, 7 will terminate service in Bengaluru and 11 flights will go to Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Kochi after a stop-over for the passengers from the state to alight.

Government must allow private airlines or international airlines from Gulf countries to operate as Lakhs of people lost jobs and many facing difficulties to stay alive due to the pandemic disease. Summer weather too making harsh living conditions so atleast minimum 4 to 5 flights daily from each country allow expatriate to fly back home early to be with their families. Was it necessary to fly by AIR INDIA/EXPRESS ONLY?????????

I cannot understand why this stepmotherly treatment for NRI employed / stranded in Oman. Till date not a single flight arranged from Muscut to Mangalore. Karnataka CM and DK-M.P Mr.Nalin Kumar Kateel should do something. Neighbouring state Kerala is so far getting the highest number of in bound flights from Middle East.

Administration please make old bajpe airport as covid quarantine centet for all Dubai returnees it is time to covert it into hospital ...do not bring gulf returnees inside city till quarantine period ..i think.some passengers took paramacetol to lower their body temprature so they escaped screening in Dubai airport.

They are welcome but not at cost of our locals rights ...strictly enforce quarantine on tthem

People who are coming dont expect 5 star facility. This is emergency evacuation treat your country as your home not 5 star hotel. Earlier who ever came they are complaining about so many silly things. If you are not happy with Indian government facility stay where you are. There are so many needy people who want to return allow them to return....Still Muscat people dont know when is their flight...

    Modiji,

Please arrange to do a Rapid COVID-19 test on these passengers before boarding the plane as you said earlier...No other silly tests like body Temperature tests,,,,

When they reach Mangalore....make reasonable arrangements like Water, Ambulances, Buses ...and see that they complete their Immigration and Customs in One hour after landing and reach their quarantine Hotels within an hour from departing from Airport...

If an accurate and reliable COVID-19 test is conducted on these passengers...then Hotel quarantine is absolutely not needed and home quarantine is good enough...

Last but not least give a bottle of 'Hat Dettol' to each passengers for hygiene ....

    ...Tak...Takk...

The incubation period can be upto 21 days, so even if their tests are negative on arrival, they could turn positive after 1-2weeks. We all know how irresponsible some people are, they will never stick to guidelines of home qurantine. Compulsory institutional quarantine is the only way. If not, it'll will turn into community spread very soon and then there is no going back

Institutional quarantine may help minimizing community spread but on flipside there is a risk to quarantined as who knows who will turn out positive and spread it within the institutional premises.
