Mangalore, Jan 14: The police personnel from Upparpet Bangalore station, who arrived in the city on Wednesday January 13, have arrested Abdul Kalam (42), who runs a travel agency near Nehru Maidan here, on charges of raping a visa aspirant at Bangalore along with two others.
It is said that Ramlat, a resident of Hosally in Moodigere taluk of Chikmagalur district, wanted to get a visa to work in Dubai. She has told the policemen that she had approached Sahara Travels here for the purpose, and had paid money for the same. Reportedly, Abdul Kalam, along with Shaffi and Ismail from Bantwal, took her to Bangalore on October 13, 2009, in the guise of providing her with visa and gang-raped her after booking a room in a lodge there. She said she was posed death threat by the accused before fleeing, without providing her any visa.
The three-month pregnant Ramalat had filed a complaint at Upparpet police station on January 12. The charges include rape, fraud and posing death threat. The two other accused reportedly, have gone missing.
