Mangaluru: Service bus stand packed with UP, Jharkhand migrant workers

Mangaluru, May 11: A huge crowd of migrant workers hailing from Uttar Pradesh (UP) Jharkhand and have gathered in the service bus stand here since morning on Monday, May 11.

It is said that these people have gathered here after getting information that their travel to native states is being arranged on Monday. This information is yet to be confirmed.

There is no official confirmation of any train carrying the migrant workers from here.

The crowded bus stand poses a challenge to the coronavirus situation as social distancing has been given a go by.

    Just like 'Demonetisation' this lock down planning is ill conceived by PM Modi's BJP government given only four hours of notice period. Prior to that month of February completely wasted in President Donald Trump welcome spending Rs 200 crores for flower carpet and building wall even though Congress leader Mr. Rahul Gandhi twitted the government to be take the pandemic seriously.
    When the migrant workers situation is going out of control, the BJP strike a deal with paid media and made Delhi Nizammudin 'Tablig Jamat' event to deflect the attention from the failure.

    The late response has already cost United states dearly with highest number of deaths. Whereas India's number is not far from 'Italy'. In other hand these workers having no jobs for two months are stranded helpless without food, shelter and money. At the same center's BJP just pass the responsibility to the state government and Prime Minister seems to using his free time video conferencing with Chief Minister doing the nothing.

    For India worst problem is yet to come. This communal motive government of BJP has no proper planning, no exist strategy, no proper execution and insufficient allocation of funds and PDS distribution schemes.

    These migrant workers have no jobs had been charged Rs50 extra Corona cess tax on to top of there ticket fare.

    When late PM V.P. Singh never even considered charging the Indians stuck in Kuwait in 1990 for no fault of their own. Not only is Modi charging Indians stranded abroad by COVID-19 but also the millions of poor trapped by his lock-down decision.

    Is it called 'Sab Ka Saath, Sab ka vikas'. PM Modi should morally accept his failure. He has proven failed leader in every sector of the governance.

    This what going to happen, when there is no proper planning. Why taking online registration if that not utilised . You have data in your system, sort data as per local pin code numbers, then you can sort it as per state they are from. Prepare list and arrange transport accordingly. One message to each registered number will do....

    This at the moment was completely unwarranted ,when we were slowly going back to normalcy.
    The fear physcosis caused by some vested interests is really deplorable.
    Instead of instilling confidence in these workers they are advising them the other way round to leave their place of work.
    They want Corona to win not India !
    Pathetic Politics !
    India is stronger though! It will pass every test ..

    Who is responsible for this condition? When lock-down was announced, why these migrants were not taken into account? People walked for thousands of kilometres to reach their hometown. Mothers carried the children on shoulders and walked along. No arrangement to provide them food and left them in distress. Not even water was provided on the way

    Their confidence is shattered and for them survival is more important. Government failed in all fronts and now you are blaming them. Have some heart for these poor migrants.

    Hallo ! You have been responding rather retorting to my comments of late. Too many are there ,in fact now many of them wait to see my comment and then respond.Not all but many.Why ? They will be noticed of course !
    To you and your essay madam.Just see below how a fellow has rudely retorted to my simple analysis.He has no hold over his language.He has' poked ' my eyes and I have given it back ! Dunno what the censors here will do !
    In your case however " Meenakshi " means one who has beautiful ' fish eyes ' !
    Fish can see best in water.
    Ground realities for it is a bit blurred.

    What will a person understand the travails of walking 1000-1500 km in this heat; you know many parts of Maharashtra were sweltering at 46°C; just think before posting lopsided comments....

    Meenakshi, in Mumbai 2000 autos/taxis drivers have left along with their families to their native places after being on the roads forced to beg for food & money, most of them say they had the worst experience in their lives after having lived for so many years; same is the experience from trapped migrants in various cities!

    Post lockdown, there will be a gaping short supply of skilled/unskilled workers adding to the word of already "wiped out" 75% of businesses in MSME SECTOR! Big industrial groups have given indications of substantial haircuts in salaries & emoluments!
    Post CORONA socioeconomic effects will be much more painful and prolonged than expected!

    Bhandar sir, in my opinion, government should have given 3/4 days time for the people to vacate. That time infection was not much and just creeped in. Our sanmanya Pradhan Manthriiji gave speech at 8pm and within 4 hours lock down began. If they would have gone that time, by now situation would have been much better. Now lock down opened. Some factories, industries, mills are started but no work force. Some shops are open but no stock. On enquiry, workers are not ready to come.. They want to go home... One example... Beaten rice is not available in some shops. Problems happened now we have to adjust with it. But, days ahead are very difficult... Till now went on with less corona cases...

    'Stay where you are' is the manthra.
    If people were given ample time to relocate, the pandemic would have spread all across the country from the hot spots.
    Fortunately, the lockdown at the initial stages was able to contain the infection to hotspots. See how Udupi is virus free now.
    if there was ample time before lockdown, the whole purpose would have been compromised. To and fro from Kasragod and Mangalore would have made us to have infections everywhere without any traceability or control.

    Do you have migrant workers in Kirem ?....

    What's wrong with our local people ??...Why they are lazy and don't want to work ???...

    This Virus is from China....most likely it came to India from Middle East or Iran....In a hind sight these Migrant Workers were unlikely to be COVID-19 Carriers in the initial stages....I personally think, Modiji should have given 3-5 days notice before declaring lock down instead of 4 hours...

    Well I could be wrong here as well...Running a big Country like India,,,,is not an EASY task...

    Lan... Sir, I appreciate your valid points. What you said is cent per cent right regarding the managing of a such a big country. It's very difficult.. But, it would have been much easier now, if the migrant workers were sent back to their respective places before janata curfew.... That time infection was very less. Now, here and there cases are rising and these workers gather in thousands on someone's stupid call. There are some who purposely do this and create fear in these peoples heart. Our villages too have migrants who do the house maid work. Some zharkand workers are employed in religious institutions and big farm houses. But, here local people also go for daily wages. Surpringly, during lock down too, our daily wagers were working same like before. Some Auto/bus/truck drivers and other factory workers too were doing some electrical/plumbing/painting and so on....

    If Mr. Modi had ordered evacuation of Migrant Labor prior to declaration of Lockdown, this "hang around" situation wouldn't have arised. Clear cut 5 days should have been allotted for evacuation, hoarding yrains

    For what reason these fellows are in a hurry to reach the native place?
    Ration and food from good hearted people is available here too.
    There are people with vested interest who float fake news and see the fun. Police should intervene and disperse the crowd even at the cost of a lati charge. A thorough investigation should be done and the culprit who floated rumor should be arrested.

    At this time when government is choked with fighting Covid19, please do not play politics. You have enough time later on if you survive.

    What if you were stuck in other part of India for more than 50 days without salary, no money to buy food or pay for shelter and depend on social organisations to get one time food, will you still stay or try to go back home?
