Panaji, May 10: As coronavirus lockdown has taken toll on govt revenue state government on Saturday hiked VAT on diesel to 22%. The cost of diesel now stands at Rs 64.66 per litre.
Petrol now costs Rs 68.09 per litre, the prices will differ based on the location of the fuel station in Goa.
The government is targeting revenue of Rs 78 crore due to the increase in VAT on diesel, a government official said.
Currently fuel consumption is low because of lockdown. Several states have seen a drastic drop in revenue and taxes due to the nationwide lockdown.
Many states are increasing taxes on alcohol, fuel and vehicle registration fees to increase revenues.
