Mangaluru, May 6: "Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) in the district are the ones who do noble work. They have worked sincerely to help differently-abled children, senior citizens, during disaster management and other social activities.
"But the district administration in the district has failed to provide suitable importance to them in the management of Covid-19. There are several organizations in the district with expertise in social, educational, health and disaster management. The district administration would have got elephant’s strength if they were given opportunities in Covid-19 management. But the administration gave importance only to Sevanajali Trust and neglected other experienced organizations. It is painful as NGOs work sincerely for the poor without expecting any returns. Given an opportunity, those organizations would have supplied masks and food kits to the needy, comforted and provided necessary information to the people in distress and would have stood by the district administration to join hands in their work.
"There are several instances in which the administration could have sought help from the NGOs. But they are cornered. The district administration, Karnataka state government, district in-charge minister and local MLAs have stumbled in this connection," J R Lobo said.
"The administration should follow the basics in solving Covid-19 problem properly. J R Lobo requested the administration to invite the heads of NGOs for a meeting for their participation in Covid-19 management.
"The scene in the corporation office was pathetic on Wednesday. Thousands of migrant workers waited in line without maintaining social distance to obtain passes to return to their homes. The officials there blamed the server for being down. The district administration should set right those anomalies soon," he said.
