Bengaluru, May 6: With the coronavirus or COVID 19 pandemic affecting the entire world and lockdown causing untold hardships on the people, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has demanded that a special legislature session be convened immediately to discuss the aftermath and also the question of reviving economy.

“Saving lives and livelihood should be the priority of all elected governments and the elected representatives,’’ KPCC Chief D K Shivakumar has said.

As the BJP government headed by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced various measures and immediately or within a matter of days reversing them altogether and almost all sections of people being severely affected by the lockdown and the misery caused by the pandemic, the State Congress party is keen to put the government on the mat for its flip-flops and ill-advised decisions even though the lockdown was necessary to contain the situation.

The KPCC president designate D K Shivakumar has in a tweet said: “I urge the @CMofKarnataka to convene a special session of the Assembly to rework the budget and to discuss ways to revive the economy.”

The BJP-ruled State has passed the state budget for the year 2020-21 in March last, before the impact of the COVID-19 on the State economy.

The 40-day lockdown and relaxed lockdown has severely impacted the state revenue sources and rendered lakhs of people jobless.

The Congress leader said, “We also need to discuss the plight of the farmers and the millions who have suffered in the unorganized sectors.”

Shivakumar said many community based professionals, farmers and daily wage earners need attention and immediate financial assistance and demanded the government to convene the Legislature session to discuss a range of issues that adversely impacted the state economy.

“I assure that it will be a very productive session in the interest of our brothers and sisters who are the builders of this nation,’’ the Congress leader said.

It is a right call by DKS to ask for State Legislature Session to discuss:
    1. Arbitrary increase in the duty on liquor which has given a wrong signal to other retail traders to arbitrarily increase prices of other commodities when the common man is suffering without enough money.
    2. Arbitrary increase in Petrol and Diesel price when the oil price has hit the rock bottom globally.
    3. GOK disallowing the migrant workers to leave the state which is the fundamental right of the workers by yielding to the builder's lobby.
    4. Discuss the article COVID 19 NUMBERS - Is Something amiss somewhere? by Jagdish Rattanani - Journalist and Faculty SPJIMR & Dr John - Retired Prof of Clinical Virology, CMC, Vellore in DECCAN HERALD page 6 on May 7, 2020.

It is very important to consider the all party meeting amid this pandemic. The state Karnataka BJP government disaster management plans are complete failure comparing to the one of the poorest state of Odhisa and Kerala.
The government hurriedly opened the liquor shops for revenue making lock-down purpose useless despite the increasing number of patients. There are no proper exist strategy, no economic package for the downtrodden, no advisory from the government foe essential services and so on.
If the state legislature session to discuss is not possible it is important to have video conferencing with opposition parties to have common goal.

There are so many suffering in Mloru due to the lock down, including myself,. Business are shut down for 45 day now,, Cash is drying , no salary to workers. But no respite.
We see RaGa, DKS issue statements , but Cong in DK, and Mlure are in ICU. Not even ONE of them opens their mouth , no statement, no help!

Who in Kudla or DK .? All the leaders have been sent packing home with their political careers rear ended. .They lack leadership acumen to bounce back and also no accomplishments and Charisma to draw people. Admittedly BJP is doing good work as well in Mlore. Khader is around, but his popularity and power is limited only to Ullal. From the youngsters, Mithun Rai has literally called it quits, his statements and body language suggest that he does not want to be associated with Cong. Subsequent to humiliating defeats nationwide ,RaGa being a butt of jokes and young dynamic promising leaders leaving, today its an embaressment among Mangaloreans to openly say that they are Cong supporters.
So you can expect support only on online forums .

No wonder. Cong has never groomed promising youngsters to don the mantle, From the High command to the local Panchayat level its only 'Yes Sir' , 'No Sir' retorting ageing uncles. The traditional minorities contesting from BJP and recent elevation in BJP minority morcha members should be a concern and eye opener for Cong. But this party will never learn. Apparently Ivan Dsouza is the next big thing for Cong in DK. I could not help laughing. I would also not be surprised if Ramanatha Rai is fielded again in 2024 after being knighted as the 'Tiger of Bantwal'.

Cannot agree more on your last statement. I would not be surprised if Janadhana Poojari contests for the 7th time in 2024. Gen Congi leaders who have lost ,immediately feed their chelas a chewing gum called 'EVM hacking '' . The chelas chew them for 5 years so their leaders can contest again.
