New Delhi, Dec 30 (IANS) India's opening batsman Gautam Gambhir Tuesday said that match referee Alan Hurst took the right decision in calling off the fifth ODI against Sri Lanka as the Ferozeshah Kotla track was in no way fit for playing.
"The match referee's decision was correct, as the Kotla pitch was not ideal for an ODI match. I don't want to say much as the world has already seen what happened that day," said Gambhir.
Gambhir's comments came after Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) vice-president Chetan Chauhan said the Sri Lankan team didn't want to play on the track.
"Had the wicket been good enough there was no need to call off the match so early. Some one needs to stand up and take the responsibility for the issue," Gambhir said.
"It is disappointing for us as we wanted to end the series with a convincing 4-1 win rather than 3-1. We wanted to end the year on a high and carry on the momentum to Bangladesh next month," he said.
