Lockdown: Church in Kerala donates money meant for renovation to help fishermen community

Daijiworld Media Network - Alappuzha (SD)

Alappuzha, Apr 8: From individuals to organizations stepping out to help people in need during this lockdown, a church in Alappuzha in Kerala decided to donate money to the fishermen community who were worst affected. Technically, the money was being collected for the church renovation.

Fr Thomas, a priest of the church said, "There are 530 families here and with the money collected for church renovation I will be able to support each family with Rs 500. I thought at this time supporting them is more important than renovating the church."

Solomon, a fisherman said that they were solely surviving on the free ration provided by the government since the lockdown was imposed.

"Since last month we have no work and the lockdown has made the situation difficult for us. At this time getting Rs 500 is like getting Rs 5 lac," said another fisherman Yousheph, indicating the sufferings of the families without work.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday asserted that India has 5,194 cases with 4,643 cases reported to be active while 401 people have either recovered or discharged.

In the last 24 hours, the ministry reported 10 new deaths taking the death toll to 149.

Kerala government does not want to take responsibility of Covid 19 patients from Kasaragod, Their Chief Minister had a strategy to transfer all of them to Mangalore and take credit that Kerala Covid numbers have gone down. Thanks to our District Administration, MLA's, MP's for swift action and closing Mangalore - Kasaragod connecting Roads. As of today , there are 157 Covid 19 patients in Kasaragod, accounting more than 50% of Kerala count. Their Chief Minister knocked the doors of Prime Minister and the Court to get the roads open. Our district administration must be extra vigilant to make sure those patients are not transferred to Mangalore! Kerala government is marketing themselves well, rather than doing anything for Covid victims. Many other states including Karnataka are better managing the situation.

Good gesture. Church can be renovated at a later date also. But the church has done a good and right work. But what about others. Let them also come forward to give their helping hand to fishemen community

    Hi Kishan

This is the best time to help others and stand with the smiling face on our judgement day which is coming soon.
If you have got money please help at least 5 families to survive by giving rice and other basic necessities for those who did not get it  from Govt or NGOS.
This is not the time for condemnation, they will pay for what they have done. We will set an example and others will follow.  We must keep religion and Politics aside. Our CM Yaddurappa has done good Job in this regard.

    Kishan,

Covid did not see any country, state, religion, caste or colour... people still continuing with the narrow minded attitude is something very shameful.... just wonder, how someone can keep hatred like this and can't appreciate someone's good deed... Ultimately you are bound to pass on this hatred to next generation and sow the seeds of poison in them ...
