Bengaluru: Home-quarantined people spreading coronavirus to pet animals

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Apr 8: The fact that domesticated animals have now started suffering from coronavirus infection has given rise to cause of worry among the people, particularly those under home quarantine.

There was no bar on the quarantined persons dealing with pets. All they needed to maintain was social distance from humans. But the information that a cat from Belgium, tiger from USA and dog from China have contracted this infection, has given rise to new worry.

The people under home quarantine have fondled and played with pets. The other members of their families also have played with the animals. Now there is tension over the possibility of the animals getting coronavirus infection from humans and then passing it on to other family members.

Dr Prayag, assistant professor at Karnataka Veterinary, Fisheries and Animal Sciences University College at Hebbal Bengaluru says that this has proved that infected people and suspects have to maintain social distance from pets too. Those providing food to pet animals should wash their hands properly after providing food and care to animals. Veterinarians should be contacted if any change in health of animals is noticed. People suffering from health disorders or coronavirus symptoms should stay away from animals. Till a clearer picture emerges, one should as far as possible, avoid playing, fondling, and sharing of food with pet animals.

Yes, mainly our mother cow's, it seem's to me as if they have been thrown out by the son's and daughter's extra burden, similar to old parents are left at the old age house by the kids.

FYI, CORONA cannot be transmitted by food contamination; the HCL acid in the stomach can dissolve even an iron nail!

There is no evidence that pet animals can spread C OVID 19. Pets have other types of corona viruses that can make them sick, like canine and feline corona viruses. These cannot infect people and are not related to the current COVID 19 out break. it is always good to practice healthy habits around pets and other animals, such as washing your hands and maintaining good hygiene. Maintaining social distance at least six feet is a must.

There is no need for panic or fear psychosis against animals. It is in only rarest cases this phenomenon is noted.
Please be kind to animals. People can spread corona not the animals.
If the animals appear sick only then be cautious.

As rightly pointed out in the article, let's take measures to protect the pets from us humans !

What you say is absolutely right. Not to panic.
If people just read the headline n not understand the matter properly, some will just panic.

Yes... Let's be kind towards all our animals... May god protect all our animals from this corona virus... Poor animals they cannot express what they go through if they fall sick 😢😢 I request to all those who can keep a bowl of water or two in the compounds or on the terrace for our birds/tiny animals. Let them quench their thirst in this scorchy heat. Early morning, we listen only their talking/singing cawing/ etc
