Mangalore, Dec 7: Two groups, one representing Sunni and the other, Jamaat-e-Islam-e-Hind, fought pitched battle in the mosque located in Bardila of Kuppepadav village within the Bajpe police station limits on Sunday December 6. Two persons, one with critical injuries to head, and the other with fractured leg, were admitted to private hospitals, after the incident. They have been identified as B C Mohammed and Fakruddin, both belonging to the Sunni group.
A complaint against a group led by Sulaiman from Jamaat-e-Islam-e-Hind, and also Ummer Farooq, Shekhabba, Imtiaz, Jakriabba and Shariff, who allegedly supported him, has been registered in Bajpe police station. The complaint says that the victims were attacked by the SIO unit of the organization.
It is said, frictions arose over the periodical call for namaaz, given over the public address system of the mosque. Some long-standing rivalry appears to have finally given rise to violent clashes.
