Kasargod, Apr 6: Eight persons including a seven-year-old boy were confirmed to have been infected with deadly coronavirus disease in Kerala on Sunday April 5. The boy is from Nellikunje in the district. The boy reportedly got this disease from his parents, both whom are being treated for coronavirus.
Five from Kozhikode district, and one each from Pattanamthitta, Kannur and Kasargod districts, were newly added to the list of confirmed cases. Four from Kozhikode district, who have been suffering from the disease, had taken part in the religious convention at Nizamuddin, Delhi. Those from Kannur and Kasargod districts got the disease because of their contact with the patients. A 19-year-old lady, who happens to be a student at Delhi, has also been infected.

The state, with the above, has 314 coronavirus patients now. On Sunday, six were declared to have been cured of the infection. 256 have been admitted in different hospitals in the state, while a total of 56 have been discharged from hospitals so far. Two had lost their battle for life earlier after suffering from this disease. In Kasargod district, 10,731 are quarantined and under observation. On Sunday, 43 got admitted into hospitals.
Ammbalattara police arrested three persons on Sunday for violating lockdown instructions not to offer mass prayers. The arrested persons happen to be Benny Varghese (50), head of M C B S Ashram in Kodori-Belur gram panchayat, Fr Francis alias Vinod (40), and assistant Selvan T. Later they were released on bail.
In the meantime, Kasargod Medical College Hospital at Ukkinadka in the district began functioning on Sunday, and the hospital will begin to admit coronavirus patients from April 6 evening. The hospital will at as modern treatment centre for coronavirus as per the initiative undertaken by the chief minister. It has equipment worth seven crore rupees.
