Mangaluru, Apr 5: The city police have confiscated 211 private vehicles for violating lockdown on Saturday, April 4. In addition, Dakshina Kannada district police have taken possession of 73 vehicles for similar offence.
Since April 2, strict lockdown has been imposed in the city, prohibiting private vehicles from plying on the roads for any reason. Only doctors, nurses, hospital employees and mediapersons with valid passes are allowed.
Tweeting in this regard, police commissioner Dr P S Harsha said that he was not happy with people violating the lockdown and warned people against playing with the lives of fellow citzens.
"211 vehicles seized for lockdown violations ..I AM NOT HAPPY .. ARE YOU?? Don't play with lives of fellow countrymen.. comply with instructions.. save yourself and Don't risk others lives to the CORONA pandemic...We will not hesitate to go all the way to enforce...STAY HOME..(sic)," he tweeted.
Though there was restriction on the movement of vehicles in the district, people were seen roaming in their vehicles without any valid reason. The district administration therefore had imposed a complete ban on vehicular movement, except ambulance, emergency service vehicles, hospital employees and the media, from 12.30 pm of April 2 to midnight of April 14.
Strict action on vehicles violating the rules is being carried out under the leadership of DCP Laxmiprasad and ACP Manjunath Shetty under the direction of city police commissioner Dr P S Harsha.
