Sullia, Apr 4: Excise department officials raided a den at Kalloni in Bellare village where illicit liquor was being brewed, and took into possession 115 litres of fermented cashew fruits, one and half litres of liquor and other things being used for making liquor. A person was arrested on this connection. The incident happened on Friday April 3.
The arrested man happens to be Janardhana from Kalloni, Bellare. Sullia excise sub-inspector Radha S P, led a team that raided the spot and arrested the accused.
The raid was conducted under the directions of excise department deputy commissioner at Mangaluru and Puttur deputy superintendent and directions of Sullia excise inspector Mahalallinga Naik, by sub-inspector Radha S P and other staff.

As wine shops have been close down, there is apprehension about liquor addicts seeking recourse to illicit liquor to satiate their urge. As if to reinforce the suspicion that more illicit liquor den might be in operation, a model of liquor production that has appeared in social website has become viral. The miscreants might use cashew that is available now in abundance to make liquor locally.
The excise department has set up 12 teams to take action against such units. As possibility of such units functioning in faraway rural areas is bright, the teams are concentrating on such places, an excise official stated.
