Mangaluru: Thieves steal offertory box from Paneer church

Mangaluru, Apr 3: Thieves entered the Paneer church at Deralakatte on the outskirts of the city on the night of Thursday and stole more than 10 offertory boxes and looted the money in those boxes.

Nine doors of the church were broken by the thieves before gaining entry into the church of Our Lady of Mercy. They also broke open the tabernacle in which the Holy Communion was kept.

It is suspected that the thieves entered the MSIL wine shop at Nityananda Nagara under Konaje police station limits before breaking into the church.

A team of police personnel led by Ullal station officer Anil Kumar have visited the spot and investigating further.

A case in this regard is registered at Ullal police station.

    Do not condemn such people at this critical and difficult times.
    God knows their heart. May be they had no other livelihood except to rob.
    Surely they will return the money after they are once again in working condition.
    In despair and for livelihood even robbing is venial sin.

    Please remove the collection boxes and devotees need to pay through PHONE PE OR GOOGLE PAY OR NETBANKING OR any digital gateway. So this can avoid robbery as well.

    Very sad to hear robbing church offering boxes. How far the thieves will enjoy this money. Before they even think about enjoying the money they will be caught. Remember GOD can see each and every act of human being. Even our hair is counted by GOD. Lord have mercy on all your people and enlighten each one of us in time of crisis. Praise you Jesus, Praise to his mighty name.

    If you do not forgive and curse others then you live with out peace then suffer and die. I may be a good Person and do not create nuisance in the society but the above rule applies to all.

    Your comments are in haste and just emotional one and not practical or spiritual. I do not blame you but the teaching what we got. This is the time to stick to Word of God and get rid of all rituals & false teaching which will take us nowhere.

    Yes it is sad incident that thieves entered the church & doors are broken.

    Domino effect of Corona is the burglary is reduced. Because all are at home.
    It is easy to catch the thieves because police are alert and thief can not hide in the crowd.
    Even regular readers of Daiji can see the crime news greatly reduced after Corona

    Starvation; willing to work but no work makes desperadoes who can do anything for money!

    Please do not depend upon police to protect your wine shop; better employ a night watchman to protect the precious stuff! Booze would have given the best returns in the shortest time if one had invested in it, rest all investments down by average 50%! Booze always in demand; during happiness, during sorrow, during normal times, most demand in distress times!

    I am sure they mistook the church for a temple. When found pittance in the offertory box, may have thought the valuables are hidden in the tabernacle.

    Next time they will think rather to save their energy than burgling a church.

    Please understand the sarcasm. Churches operate differently than temples. There is no collection box in Churches as in temples. What is broken is a namesake box kept beside a statue in which people seldom toss a coin or two, in the entire year there may not be Rs. 50/- altogether.
