Mangaluru, Mar 17: Agitated at the fact that some plants were cut for blocking some hoardings erected near Kadri Park in the city, environmentalists, on Monday March 16 night, tore down several flexes in the area.
Branches of three plants had been cut off as they blocked the view of some flexes. This angered the activists of National Environment Conservation Federation (NCEF) who tore up two huge flexes erected nearby. They also directed their ire at a flex set up to greet leaders.
NECF convener Shashidhaar Shetty, said that six flexes in the city have been torn off. He said that the activists have smeared black paint on the photo of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, on a nearby flex and written, 'Jai Netravati' on it. "We will blacken the MP's photo in flexes and advertisement hoardings. We are also tearing up the flexes of people who set up unauthorized flexes and unnecessarily cut down trees," he stated.
He pointed out that Nalin Kumar Kateel had initially opposed Yettinahole project. "Nalin got people's votes in the name of god, Daiva, and River Netravati. Now, with an eye on commission, he has overlooked these things, which is condemnable. We do not need such an MP, and we are not in need of his flexes too," he said angrily.
