Udupi, Mar 11: Dual Energy X ray Absorptiometry (DXA) was inaugurated at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal on Wednesday, March 11.
Dual Energy X ray absorptiometry (DXA) which gives an estimate of bone density and the risk of fracture is the gold standard test for diagnosing osteoporosis.
DXA is a low radiation X-ray capable of detecting even small percentages of bone loss. DXA allows accurate diagnosis of osteoporosis, estimation of fracture risk and monitoring of patients undergoing treatment. Other important advantages of DXA include short scan times, low radiation dose and good measurement precision. DXA Bone density testing to diagnose osteoporosis and its treatment is now available at Department of Endocrinology, Kasturba Hospital Manipal.
Dual Energy X ray Absorptiometry (DXA) was inaugurated by Dr H S Ballal, pro chancellor, MAHE Manipal and said “Like Diabetic mellitus, Osteoporosis is also a silent killer that quietly destabilizes our lives.
