Mangaluru, Mar 10: In a road accident case, the third JMFC court here found that charge of recklessness has been proved. Therefore, the court imposed six months of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 on the guilty.
The man who was found guilty and jailed happens to be Biju S Pillai (30). Jeevan Acharya (31) from Jodumarga in BC Road had lost his life in the accident.
Acharya, working as an engineer in a watch company, was travelling on a motorbike driven by a colleague, Ganesh, towards Mangaluru to have lunch at 1.30 pm on December 27, 2015, when a car which was coming from the direction of Bengaluru hit the bike after the driver lost control. The pillion rider, Jeevan Acharya, suffered grave injuries in the accident, while the rider escaped with minor injuries. The injured were admitted into the hospital in the city but Acharya breathed his last on January 4, 2016.
A case was registered in the traffic (east) station and Suresh Kumar had filed a charge sheet.
Judge of the court, Ashwini Kore, imposed a total fine of Rs 5,000 under different sections of Indian Penal Code, duly making it clear that non-payment of fine will result in additional jail term.
