Cruise ship on world tour denied entry into New Mangalore Port

Mangaluru, Mar 7: A cruise ship on world tour was denied permission to enter New Mangalore port at the last minute.

The ship was slated to touch the port here at 6 am on Saturday March 7. But the government denied permission as the ship had touched countries where Coronavirus infection is prevalent. The ship maintenance team tried to convince the government by saying that all the tourists in the ship have been tested and none of them is suffering from Coronavirus infection, the government refused to relent.

New Mangalore Port Trust and district administration had made preparations to conduct health check up of the passengers, duly expecting the ship to arrive. The passengers in the ship were eager to visit a few tourist places in and around Mangaluru. On Friday night, the decision of the government not to allow the ship to touch the port was received. In the meanwhile, district health officer Sikandar Pasha, has said that there has been request from the airport here for additional medical officers and staff for checking the health conditions of foreign travellers arriving there.

    It's easier then done .Financial loss of the tour operator in Mangalore is understood but not at the cost of human life and all countries including US us doing it as it's state of emergency and all countries area aware of it . So question of making friends at the cost of Thier own people does not arise . Why do Kuwait stop flights from India to protect its people it's the same for India as well.

    They should not be allowed to deboard as you are risking infection to the entire city and India as we have migration within states .

    Karnataka govt has issued advisory that anyone coming from COVID19 country should self quarantine for 14 days and thermal screening is not the effective way when a person is asymptomatic spreading virus across .

    These guys on ship are on fun trip and should have responsibility towards other countries.


    Business at the cost of life of Mangaloreans not accepted .

    How long can stop ..? Better install body temperature detectors at all the points of arrivals like airports, sea ports, train stations. If tested positive then detain or dont allow entry.

    It's proved that taking body temperature is of no use when person is asymptomatic. I know business is lost but not at cost of human life in Mangalore.

    Requesting all not to travel anywhere ecspecially foreign countries where Corona virus is rampant & killing many. If you are infected with the disease even your own family members will not accept you. When this is the case, how can we allow foreigners to land here at this moment?

    They will understand.. they need to go back to their home country and take rest... I think you have heard of one cruise ship problem at japan... otherwise our hospitals will be houseful.. what about local patients..?

    Even Kuwait suspends flight from India. That means it sees safety of its citizen... Doesn't mean that Kuwait wants to break friendship with India. In the past also many gulf countries suspended the flights based on h1n1...remember?

    Rules are made and changed over night
    Common man suffers especially travellers.. Below is an exrract of todays news. People are held up in airports with cancelled flights.

    Based on precautionary measure, the Kuwait civil aviation department decides all incoming flights to and from Kuwait International airport are temporary suspended for a week for 7 countries (Egypt, Philippines, Syria, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India) for a week time effecting from 6th March to provide the necessary equipment to conduct the necessary tests on the arrival comings to Kuwait and ensure health security of people living in Kuwait and to combat the spread of virus.

    I full agree with the view of Mangalurean.
    Kuwait has shown extreme partiality at the time of this crisis, while most affected case here locally applies to Kuwaitis only.
    Unfortunately, this Virus has no partiality.!

    But, Indian authorities had enough time to inform their (ill prepared) decision, to the Cruise ship, days in advance, so that the cruise ship may have the option to divert to a destination of their choice, without incurring financial loss and loss of reputation, and without facing this inhumane humiliation at the seas of Mangalore.

    Mangalore, which is struggling so hard to appear on tourist map due to inefficiencies of roads, air traffic, social unrest and hatred will suffer more, not because India denied permission to the Cruise Liner, but for the unprofessional way the permission was denied at the eleventh hour.

    This is not only unprofessional on the part of the Govt but also unhuman.

    We have heard the suffering of Indians abroad and we should not have allowed the same thing to repeat in our own country.

    At least they should have allowed disembark after proper check (Both Helath and Travel History) and then should have been taken a call interms of whether allowing them to visit the places in Mangalore.
