Dubai, Nov 12: Konkan Sports Meet 2009, the most awaited community sporting event organized by Mangalore Konkans Dubai will be held at Dubai Police Officers’ Club Stadium located in Al Garhoud area here on Friday November 20.
The meet will include individual track and field events for all ages, besides generation relay and tug-of-war for groups, which is open to all Konkani speaking people or those from Konkan origin. Participation is free for individual events, but, a nominal fee of AED 10 per person will be charged for tug-of-war.
About the sporting event
Mangalore Konkans Dubai, the premier association with track record of organizing successful cultural, educational, social and sporting events for the past 21 years, is presenting this event to the Konkani community. The organizers’ aim is to create an opportunity for people to excel in sports, earn respect and recognition, make new friends, thereby creating a better community. The event will also provide an opportunity for the most needed family outing, encourage fellowship, relieve stress, help recognize the need for maintaining physical fitness.
The meet is scheduled to start at 9.00am for fellowship followed by a warm-up session. The track and field events are expected to begin at 10.00 am and wind up at 6.00 pm. Light lunch will be served to all who attend the meet. Stalls for selling beverages and snacks at reasonable price, have been also arranged. Qualified referees will officiate the events. Separate play area is being organized for small children.
About Mangalore Konkans
Mangalore Konkans, established in 1988, is affiliated to Indian Community Welfare Committee (ICWC) of the Indian Consulate in Dubai. It has been serving the community for the past 21 years and is known for organizing successful musical and social events, knowledge based seminars and promoting Konkani Language and Mangalorean culture.
