Panaji, Nov 10: Goa’s state government designated women’s body has cautioned organizers of international film festival of India (IFFI) against sale of liquor at the festival premises.
Goa State Women’s Commission Chairman Dr Pramod Salgaoncar told reporters that they will formally convey to the IFFI organizers to desist from allowing sale of liquor at the premises.
The Directorate of film festival and entertainment society of Goa will be hosting 40th edition of IFFI at panaji and Margao respectively from November 23 to December 03.
The organization is wary of liquor sale as during one of the festival a liquor was freely served in the press lounge. “They had a bar counter in the press facility. This should not be allowed,” Dr Salgaoncar commented.
The IFFI 2007 had a bar counter, which had to be shut down abruptly after protests from the women’s groups. Subsequently, IFFI 2008 too had a beer counter next to INOX multiplex.
Salgaoncar said that setting up liquor outlets will showcase wrong impression about the overall place. “It sends wrong signal to the people who arrive here for the festival,” the GSWC chief said.
