Beltangady: Coronavirus scare - 86,000 KSRTC buses sprayed with disinfectant

Beltangady, Mar 5: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has asked its employees to wear masks in view of the fact that suspected Coronavirus infection has been detected in Telangana. The corporation has taken steps to clean up 86,000 buses spread over 84 depots in 17 divisions. These steps were undertaken from Wednesday, March 4 onward.

Disinfectants including Dettol and other products are being sprayed inside and outside the buses. The depots have been given clear instructions on this issue. The cleanliness drive has been undertaken on full scale in BMTC Bengaluru and Mangaluru, Chitradurga, Chamarajanagar, Hassan and other divisions.

On an average, 35.7 lac passengers travel by KSRTC buses everudau. As such, disinfectants have been sprayed on seats, doors, handles etc. The passengers are also being advised to wear masks when coughing and sneezing. KSRTC drivers, conductors, and other staff including doctors and resource persons have been educated to take preventive measures against spread of Coronavirus.

Managing director of KSRTC, Shivayogi C Kalsad, said that in the interests of the health of the passengers, the corporation has undertaken cleanliness and sanitation drive in all its 17 divisions and buses have been sprayed with Dettol extensively to see that infection does not spread.
