Mangaluru, Mar 5: The sixth additional district and sessions court here has sentenced a person who had raped a girl by promising to marry her and fathered a female baby through her, to seven years of rigorous imprisonment. He also has been instructed to pay fine of Rs 45,000 besides ordering him to deposit Rs 50,000 int he name of the baby as DNA examination has proved him to be the biological father of the child.
The victim of this rape was a 20-year-old girl from Kushtagi in Koppal district who had come here seeking work as coolie. The man who has been held guilty happens to be Rama alias Dasayya (38) from Nagagondanahalli in Chikkamagaluru district.
The lady was staying with her parents in the rented house owned by a civil contractor near Paldane, Neermaga near here. Rama alias Dasayya was staying in an adjacent rented room. On January 11, 2018, he had raped the said lady by promising to marry her. He also had threatened her later against revealing this incident to others. Thereafter, he raped her repeatedly, as a result of which she became pregnant.
When the girl was six months into her pregnancy, her family members came to know what had happened. They approached Rama with a plea to marry their daughter but he refused, saying that he already has a wife and twp childrne. The girl filed complaint in Manglauru rural station on June 19, 2018. Rama was arrested by the police on June 21. Police inspector, Siddagouda Bhajantri, conducted investigation and filed charge sheet.
Judge of the sixth additional district and sessions court, Sayeedunnisa, who heard the case, came to the conclusion that the charges have been proved. The quantum of sentence was announced on March 4.
Public prosecutor, Jayaram Shetty, had argued the case on behalf of the prosecution.
