Udupi, Mar 4: Deputy commissioner (DC) G Jagadeesha has asked health officials to take all the necessary precautions to control Coronavirus in the district. He was speaking after chairing an emergency meeting held in this connection in the DC’s office on Wednesday, March 4.
He asked officials to be prepared with N 95 masks and other instruments necessary to treat the people affected by the virus and directed to call tender if more of them are required.
He asked to hold campaigns in rural and urban areas in the district and to create awareness about the virus through Asha activists and Anganwadi workers by distributing pamphlets to houses in all the primary health centre limits.
He directed to form committees in the leadership of officials named by the government to work to control the virus and that the committees should work in coordination with each other and submit daily report to him.
“The district administration has taken all the measures to contain the virus and there is no need for anybody to be anxious. The people should not listen to unnecessary rumours but contact the district hospitals immediately when the symptoms of infection are found,” he said.
“Rooms with five beds are reserved in Udupi district hospital and three beds each in all the taluk hospitals to treat those who are suspected to be affected by the virus. Wide awareness programmes about Coronavirus are being held all over the district. Necessary arrangements are made to quickly send samples of nose and throat fluids and blood samples to the laboratory in Bengaluru for verification if suspected victims of the virus are found,” said district surveillance officer Dr Vasudev Upadhyaya.
Additional deputy commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, DHO Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda, district surgeon Dr Madhusoodhan Nayak, Manipal KMC doctors, health department doctors and various other department officials were present.
