Mangaluru, Mar 3: World Hearing Day is held on March 3 every year to raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss.
This awareness day aims to promote ear and hearing care across the world.
Each year, the World Health Organization (WHO) decides the theme and organizations around the world adopt activities around this theme to create awareness. For this year, WHO highlighted the importance of timely and effective intervention.
On this occasion, the department of Audiology and Speech Language pathology of Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru organized a walkathon to spread awareness on deafness and hearing loss.
The event which started from Kasturba Medical College Hospital, Ambedkar circle went on till KMC Bejai. Dr John Ramapuram and Dr Anand Venugopal, medical superintendents of KMC Hospitals flagged of the event.
This was followed by an inaugural talk by the superintendents, which emphasized on need of early identification of hearing loss among newborns.
The students of department of Audiology and Speech Language pathology of Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore performed a street play highlighting the importance of hearing evaluation.
The overall event was successfully joined by staff and students of Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru.
