Mangaluru, Mar 2: With improved inflow at the Thumbe vented dam that takes care of drinking water requirement of the city, there is hope that this summer the city may not face any water shortage. With the water coming into the dam reaching robust level, once in three days, additional water is allowed to flow outside.
Compared to the level of 5.79 metres registered last year at the dam on February 28, the level now is six metres. At the same time, plans are afoot to comply with the processes to increase the level of water to seven metres, but it might take time. If no pre-monsoon rains appear till May end, there may be some problems. Small bunds constructed inside Netravati river at various places by farmers makes it hard to gauge the actual inflow of water.

Assistant executive engineer of the city corporation Naresh Shenoy, said that he does not expect water scarcity to be experienced during this summer, as water level is six metres and there is inflow of water. He points out that the water level this time is more than the last year's level at this point of time.
Newly elected mayor of the city, Diwakar Pandeswhar, said that it will be ensured that the citizens do not face water shortage. He also said he will try to see that compensation is disbursed to affected people so that the water level in the dam can be maintained to the full level of seven metres.
