Mangaluru, Feb 29: In a press meet held here on Saturday, February 29, MLC Ivan D’Souza attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union home minister Amit Shah over riots in Delhi.
He said, “India is now in a state of undeclared emergency. Trust among fellow beings is missing and do not know what will happen the next moment. People who criticize the government are labelled as anti-nationals. The government fixes them in sedition cases. Every corners of the nation is witnessing riots. The time has come to read the Constitution as BJP and its allies are trying to bring an alternative instead of our Indian Constitution. It is time for second freedom struggle.
“Shah and Modi have completely forgotten people of India. As many as four crore people are protesting all over India against Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens. It is a planned attack on protesters in Delhi.
“Many have died in the protests. Home minister Amit Shah is directly responsible for these deaths. He should resign from post immediately. He has failed to maintain law and order in the entire nation.
“Provoking speeches of BJP leaders is the main reason behind violence all over India. BJP is solely responsible for all deaths happening in the riots. Members of RSS and BJP are directly involved in these riots.
“To hide their faults, now BJP leaders are accusing Congress for riots. Congress party has a history of freedom struggle and it will always stand with people. Congress knows the values of the Constitution and respects it as holy. So we are ready to sacrifice our lives to protect our Constitution,” he said.
Speaking over BJP MLA Basangowda Patil Yatnal's controversial comments on freedom fighter Doreswamy, he said, “Yatnal does not know what freedom struggle is because a single leader or member of his party had not participated in the same. His leaders betrayed Indian freedom fighters with a secret treaty with British. Today, he denied Doreswamy's participation in freedom struggle. Tomorrow he and his party will deny Mahatma Gandhiji's role in freedom struggle. By his controversial comments, Yatnal insulted freedom struggle and freedom fighters. He should apologize for it. Otherwise, we will start a strong agitation against him in the assembly.”
