Mangaluru, Feb 28: In a tragic incident that occurred on the afternoon of Friday, February 28, three labourers got stuck under a huge heap of mud and stones, when the compound wall near which they were working collapsed suddenly. Two died and one suffered serious injuries in the mishap. This mishap is reported from Karangalpady junction in the city.

Bhimesh (25) from Bagalkote, and Masrigul (20), a resident of Bengal, are the deceased. Hanikul (23), who suffered injuries, was admitted to Yenepoya Hospital.

The labourers were working near the compound wall, when it collapsed suddenly on them. While Bhimesh and Masrigul died after getting buried under the mud, Hanikul, who was working nearby, suffered injuries when a stone fell on his leg.

Fire service personnel of Kadri and Padeshwar rushed to the spot and all efforts are being made to rescue the labourers who are stuck beneath the mud.

MLA Vedavyasa Kamath arrived to the spot. Other police officers and offcials also rushed to the location.

Vedavyas Kamath said, “It is learnt that two died and one labourer was injured seriously. Rescue work is progress. Police and fire force personnel are clearing mud and stones which collapsed from the side of the building. I am saddened by this incident and have directed officials to take necessary steps.”

“As per Employment Compensation Act, both principal employer and contractor have to give compensation to the dependents. The dependent can file case at JMFC court if they fail to provide compensation. The compensation can be given to the dependents based on their age,” said labour officer Wilma Tauro.

There must be punishment for the people who sanctioned the project and engineering company doing the work. MLA made political statement instead of recommending stringent action

Very sad .Here the sad part is the family lost its a earning member, and they have to suffer .We see here sheer negligence by digging at the wall by not keeping the needed distance.Contractor or engineer is responsible .Arrest them and file a case.Let them pay heavy punishment and compansation to the family.Labourers are not responsible. They should be advised by contractor or Engineers.Heartfelt sympathay to the deceased families.May their soul rest in peace.Wish the others fast recovery.

    Sad thing.

90% of promoters and civic authorities do not get into hiring professionals for safety and other aspects,Everyone goes with who is cheap.

Quality does'nt come cheap. No point in sharing opinions as attitude and owning responsibility ---have both vanished for the sake of many unethical reasons.

At the Karangalpady junction you have so much of building material on the footpath and obstructing pedestrians. The whole area is in a mess. The authorities are not bothered if the general public is suffering due to construction. Same is the case at Attavar the D mart construction there is so much of debris on the footpath. There is no mention of the property.
