Mangaluru, Feb 28: In a tragic incident that occurred on the afternoon of Friday, February 28, three labourers got stuck under a huge heap of mud and stones, when the compound wall near which they were working collapsed suddenly. Two died and one suffered serious injuries in the mishap. This mishap is reported from Karangalpady junction in the city.
Bhimesh (25) from Bagalkote, and Masrigul (20), a resident of Bengal, are the deceased. Hanikul (23), who suffered injuries, was admitted to Yenepoya Hospital.
The labourers were working near the compound wall, when it collapsed suddenly on them. While Bhimesh and Masrigul died after getting buried under the mud, Hanikul, who was working nearby, suffered injuries when a stone fell on his leg.
Fire service personnel of Kadri and Padeshwar rushed to the spot and all efforts are being made to rescue the labourers who are stuck beneath the mud.
MLA Vedavyasa Kamath arrived to the spot. Other police officers and offcials also rushed to the location.
Vedavyas Kamath said, “It is learnt that two died and one labourer was injured seriously. Rescue work is progress. Police and fire force personnel are clearing mud and stones which collapsed from the side of the building. I am saddened by this incident and have directed officials to take necessary steps.”
“As per Employment Compensation Act, both principal employer and contractor have to give compensation to the dependents. The dependent can file case at JMFC court if they fail to provide compensation. The compensation can be given to the dependents based on their age,” said labour officer Wilma Tauro.
