Gadag, Feb 27: In the presence of hundreds of devotees, coronation of Diwan Sharif Mulla as the spiritual head of Koraneshwara Shantidhama in Asooti village was performed. This was a historic occasion.
Procedures and rituals connected with the installation of Diwan Sharif Mulla were performed at the Shantidhama that has been newly built between Asooti and Somanakatti under the guidance of Murughendra Swamiji of Kalaburagi Koraneshwara math.
In his benedictory address, Muughendra Koraneshwara Swamiji advised the Maths and other bodies not to get immersed in procedures and rituals alone, but also get involved with the implementation of social revolutionary ideas preached by Jagajyoti Basaveshwara. He said that following on the path preached by Basavanna honestly will enable the concerned to realize the dream of equality.
"Diwan Sharif was introduced into Linga Deeksha on November 10 last. He has been trained in the ideals and customs of Lingayat religion, background, tradition etc besides teaching him the 12th century Vachanas. Efforts would be made to shape Koraneshwara Shanthidhama at Asooti into a centre of faith where all religions will be treated as equal under Diwan Sharif Mulla's leadership," he stated.
He said that Lingayat is not a term that denotes any religion or caste. It is a Mantra that advises people to work hard and practice equality. Anyone who is ready to implement the principles of Ishta Linga, Bhavalinga and Pranalinga can join Lingayat religion, he clarified.
On this occasion, a mass marriage programme comprising of seven couples from different religions was held under the guidance of Murughendra Koraneshwara Swamiji. Oppatteshweara Swamij of Guledgud, Vishwanath Devaru of Ron, Shivakumara Swamy of Kamatagi, Shivapuja Swami of Badami, Veereshwara Swami of Betageri, Sharane Neelalochana Tayi, Naragund block Congress president Praveen Yavagal, Raveendra Hiremath, Manjunath Salimath and gram panchayat president Viresh Dindoor and others were present were present.
