Madikeri: Strangers trespass into mosque, beat up Musliyar

Madikeri, Feb 24: Four unidentified persons reportedly made their way into the mosque at Hathur in the district and escaped after assaulting the Musliyar of the mosque who was alone. The incident happened on Saturday February 22.

The Musliyar, identified as Moosa from Hundi near Polibetta in Kodagu, who is injured, stands admitted into the government hospital at Gonikoppal.

Hathur Mohiddin Jumma Masjid is located on Gonikoppal - Virajpet main road. The mosque is open since morning to night to enable people to offer namaz. At around 4.15 am on Saturday, four persons had come to the mosque in an Innova car bearing Kerala registration number, the Muliyar said. They had jumped over the compound wall of the mosque and entered the mosque, he stated.

Even though the Musliyar objected to their entry initially, as they said they wanted to offer namaz, he allowed them to do so. Later, the gang started quarrel with the Musliyar on some silly pretext. One among them launched serious assault on the Musliyar after which the strangers went away in their car, he said in a complaint made to the police.
