Mangaluru, Feb 19: The Revenue department officials of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) conducted a sudden raid in Central Market on Wednesday, February 19, to check if vendors are paying monthly rent. Four shops were raided and sealed, as the shop owners who acquired the shops through tenders failed to pay the rent.
Three vegetable vendors and one fish vendor were found to be conducting business without paying rent.
The shop owners were due to pay rent amount crossing Rs 5 lac. However, they tried to run business by not paying the rent. The officials asked the people doing business to vacate and locked the shops and applied a seal.
More than Rs 64 lac is due as rent. The raid was conducted based on the directions by MCC commissioner Ajith Kumar Shanady. The MCC revenue officer Praveen Karekera and team conducted the raid.
