Mangaluru, Feb 19: "Banks should give priority to protecting data of their customers and create awareness about cyber security measures. With digitization of banking operations, it should lay added emphasis on extending automated services," advised former chairperson of State Bank of India, Arundhati Bhattacharya. She also noted that Jan Dhan Yojana has led to financial inclusion.
She was delivering foundation day lecture on 'future of banking' on the occasion of the Founders Day of Karnataka Bank Ltd here on Tuesday, February 18.
She also noted that within a short time, it would be able to conduct most of the banking operations through artificial intelligence. "There is a question mark on what will happen to the work force in the banks. Banks which can create skill to advice on employing assets of the banks, and the people who develop the skill to understand the wrongs of digital assistants and provide integrated suggestions, future banking challenges can be ably faced," she said. She praised Karnataka bank for continuing to win over the confidence and trust of its customers since the last 96 years.
Karnataka Bank managing director and chief executive officer, Mahabaleshwara M S, who welcomed, said that Karnataka Bank has been giving importance to digitization and that it aims to spread the concept of digibank, which has been started at Bengaluru, to all the branches. He also noted that the bank has recorded total business turnover of Rs 1,26,267 crore. Chairman of the bank, P Jayaram Bhat, said that Karnataka Bank has earned a place of pride in the banking sector.
On this occasion, financial help was extended under the corporate social responsibility programme of the bank to Poorprajna Institute of Scientific Research Bengaluru, Prabhodhini Trust Chikkamagaluru and Satyasai Lokaseva Trust Bantwal.
Chief business officer, Gokuldas Pai, proposed vote of thanks. Jennifer Moras compered the programme. On this occasion, musical fusion with the coming together of Pandit Vishwamohan Bhat on Mohan Veena, Vidwan Dr Mysore Manjunath on violinm Pandit Vijay Ghate on Tabla and Vidwan Patri Satish Kumar on Mridangam was presented.
