Beltangady, Feb 18: After an auto rickshaw fell 25 feet down the roadside into agricultural field at Padambila Paledabottu within Indabettu gram panchayat limits here, two women lost their lives. This incident happened on the evening of Monday, February 17.
The deceased were Hajirabi (58), wife of Dawood Saheb from Kollottu in Nada village, and Sajidabi (58), wife of Abdul Rashid from Darkhas House in Nada village.
Shainaz Banu (29), wife of the auto driver, Abdul Naveed from Kollottu in Nada village, and Mumtaz Banu (30), wife of Nasir from Manjotti in Nada village, who suffered serious injuries, stand admitted into a private hospital in Mangaluru for treatment. Auto driver, Abdul Naveed (32), who has suffered some injuries, is being treated in the government hospital here.
Mumtaz Banu, wife of auto driver Naveed, is pregnant. Naveed, who was driving the auto, happens to be the son of deceased Hajirabi. By the time the injured were admitted into the government hospital here, both the women had breathed their last. The others were provided initial treatment and sent to Mangaluru.
It is said that the relatives together had travelled to near Bangadi to take part in a feast in a auto rickshaw driven by Abdul Naveed. When they were returning home, the auto rickshaw wheels skidded, and resulted in an accident with far reaching ramifications.
Policemen of the traffic police station here visited the spot, registered a case.
