Udupi, Feb 17: Udupi District Congress Committee and District Women's Congress jointly staged a protest in front of Martyrs’ Memorial ground Ajjarkad here on Monday, February 17 against the Central government planning to cancel SC/ST, OBC reservation.
Ashok Kodavoor, president, Udupi District Congress Committee condemning the decision of the central government said, "It is planning to cancel SC/ST, OBC reservation. The BJP mindset is the reason for the declining GDP growth rate.
M A Gafoor, secretary, KPCC said, "Reservation is a fundamental right, but the government is trying to take it away from the poor and middle-class people. It is affecting particularly this class. It is a conspiracy of taking away the rights of democracy."
Nire Krishna Shetty, block Congress president, Karkala said, "The Modi-led government is trying to divide the nation in the name of caste, religion and reservation. It shows the last days of the Modi administration. All central government policies are against the democracy of India. Modi government has failed to prevent violence in the nation."
Veronica Cornelio, senior Congress leader said, "After BJP came to power, the nation has seen drastic disasters. Economic slowdown, demonetization and more have occurred. In the process of making it a Hindu nation, the government is now shaking the foundation of the constitution. They have started to divide the nation. By introducing CAA, NRC, NPR what does the government want to do with people. Smrithi Irani protested by sitting on the roads against the increase in LPG prices during the Congress government. Now all of a sudden Rs 146 is increased on LPG. The government's plans are failing to help the downtrodden."
Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLA Kaup also addressed the protestors at the protest meet.
