Manglauru, Feb 17: Srinivas Gowda from Mijar Ashwathapur, who has earned the nickname, 'Usain Bolt of Kambala' considering his unenviable record in Kambala, has arrived at the opinion that he might not be able to immediately respond to training offer extended to him by union minister for sports Kiran Rijiju.
Rijiju had asked Gowda to report at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for assessment and be prepared for further training to hone his running skills. As per the minster's suggestion, Gowda would be visiting Bengaluru on Monday to meet the SAI officials and hold discussions. He will also meet ministers for labour and youth and sports departments. He is expected to meet the chief minister at 3 pm today.
Gowda, who has expressed happiness at the invitation extended by the union sports minister, said that he has already entered into agreement with the owners of buffaloes for participating in three remaining Kambalas of this season. He said that due to participation in a number of Kambalas, he has been feeling strain in his legs and therefore he might not be able to take part in any training programmes immediately. He will possibly tell the officials that he will present before SAI after
the end of the Kambala season and take a final decision after undergoing assessment there.
In the meanwhile, vice president of India, Venkaiah Naidu, has tweeted, congratulating Srinivas Gowda for his achievement. He also thanked sports minister Kiran Rijiju, for offering to train Gowda to prepare him for the Olympics.
