Mangaluru: 'Usain Bolt' of Kambala prefers to wait till season's conclusion

Daijiworld Media Network - Manglauru (SP)

Manglauru, Feb 17: Srinivas Gowda from Mijar Ashwathapur, who has earned the nickname, 'Usain Bolt of Kambala' considering his unenviable record in Kambala, has arrived at the opinion that he might not be able to immediately respond to training offer extended to him by union minister for sports Kiran Rijiju.

Rijiju had asked Gowda to report at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for assessment and be prepared for further training to hone his running skills. As per the minster's suggestion, Gowda would be visiting Bengaluru on Monday to meet the SAI officials and hold discussions. He will also meet ministers for labour and youth and sports departments. He is expected to meet the chief minister at 3 pm today.

Gowda, who has expressed happiness at the invitation extended by the union sports minister, said that he has already entered into agreement with the owners of buffaloes for participating in three remaining Kambalas of this season. He said that due to participation in a number of Kambalas, he has been feeling strain in his legs and therefore he might not be able to take part in any training programmes immediately. He will possibly tell the officials that he will present before SAI after
the end of the Kambala season and take a final decision after undergoing assessment there.

In the meanwhile, vice president of India, Venkaiah Naidu, has tweeted, congratulating Srinivas Gowda for his achievement. He also thanked sports minister Kiran Rijiju, for offering to train Gowda to prepare him for the Olympics.

Makes sense. Best thing would be he perform and prove without any pressure and under normal conditions (without consuming any drug etc). I think this can be done in any plain track \ground running with or without shoes as per his comfort (without political leaders being involved). Once he knows he can do it then he will get confidence and can go higher level with political support. Don't bring pressure on him at once. He needs practice.

Let him take his own time. Let him finish his committments of Kambla during this season. Then make up his mind to take up the training to run on tracks. I am sure he will conquer all the hurdles and come out successful after training. Pl. keep us informed about the progress he achieved.

Srinivas Gowda himself was humble enough to admit that Bolt is a world class athlete and he was nowhere in comparison.

Important factor is how the speed was developed.
Kambala follows a hand timing system unlike Bolt's track meets where it is electronic timings. These timings do vary.
Another fact of the matter is that Gowda's speed is also generated with the help of the speed of the buffaloes. Whereas Bolt's speed is naturally generated.

There is more hype than truth in the statistic.

I full agree the analysis of Mr Rishi Thane. Srinivas Gowda said that due to participation in a number of Kambalas, he has been feeling strain in his legs and therefore he might not be able to take part in any training programmes immediately. This comment says everything!!! I do not know about Gowda but most of the people who run in kambala take hard liquor! We are not sure if he ran without taking liquor or any other performance enhancing drugs. He needs to clear the dope test before participating in any international tournaments. Anyway we will wish him good luck.

This is what's called 'professional' mannerism. If he had deserted the remaining races, it could have been really bad. We don't know to what extent he will succeed.

Well now, the Kambala officials must search for the next talent for coming season. Our youth may not have got opportunity when they were young. Let there be more members getting inducted directly into sports field in this manner.

Cricket is given too much of hype hence our youngsters are interested in only cricket. There is Ranji in almost every state but there is only one national team. You can understand the percentage gets into the national team. Why our youth can't be enticed towards other sport ? Let our participation/contribution be balanced, not partial.

Usain Bolt of Kudla can wait till he completes his scheduled work...i would like to share a information that there are many sprinters who ran without shoes on track in Olympics..To the best of my knowledge, Zola Budd won Gold Medal ,running bare foot..Once Mr Gowda gets good training , i think he can definitely perform well in Olympics track too...Anyway..Proud Moment..Srinivasa Gowda made Kudla Kambala World Famous, Please remember some people were trying to ban it any cost..Now they are hiding in rat holes..

Mr. Srinivas is better to continue with Kambla. Suppose if he joins to athletic field, his life would be suffered like some athlete who unknowingly rejected on doping test. His name would be spoiled and he has to put effort himself to come out of such guilty in future. Kambla is one kind of a traditional game and wherein no such politics, dope test, sacking etc etc does exist. Nobody should pressurize him into athlete, let him perform better and better in kambla and become a inspiration for the next generation to continue with kambla as well. What do you say?

Now people will go to kambala to watch only Srinivas Gowda, and not the buffaloes 🐃
Nevertheless he should definitely give it a try... even becoming a state champion would be a great success story for him ..

Whenever there is a fork in the road ahead, the natural tendency is to pursue what is familiar.

But the unfamiliar one may be far better.

When a person hesitates a little, it is not fair to say "the path is not for him".

    Mr Gowda deserves our encouragement.

When you aim for the stars, you will at least land on the moon!

I am convinced Mr Gowda can achieve wonders.

Gowda is made Usain Bolt by the bullocks which pulled him for the distance. In track, the way Usain Bolt runs, I bet not only Gowda but no one in the next 100 years from India can achieve the feat.

I bet Usain Bolt must have put many many years of hardwork in training to that level. This buddus, who have only seen Kambala are comparing Gowda with Bolt..lolzzzz

When Buffalo is pulling, the hunter should have strength and speed to go behind the buffalo. Otherwise he will fell down at the moment.
I agree with the point that, it is difficult to beat the record of Bolt, But nothing is impossible.
Nothing wrong in sending him to training or checking his speed in synthetic track. One thing is sure, he is really a good athlete.
Not easy to run in Kambala Field, It is more than synthetic Track.

I am not against Gowda but I feel its not at all possible to run in the field in that speed if you compare to usain bolt (he ran on track). Even Buffalo's also not running in that speed compare to some other animal.

    Anyway wish him the best.

With all due regards to the acheivements of Mr. Gowda in the feild of Kambala, i too like other viewer appreciate his decission of not trying his feet in Track & field.

Kambala being a different sport to which he is accustomed to ... running bear foot on a different track, unlike where a athelete of internation standard has to practice & hone the skill of running on the Synthetic track & wearing the Spikes using the block to start the race is altogether a different Ball Game.
Let our Son of Soil shine in what he is best & let the Athlete be compared / compelled to race with him

Wish him All the Best in what he is....

I really appreciate the decision taken by Mr. Gowda to continue in his Kambala field and not falling to the sweet words of the government. I feel the guidance of his Kambala friends and trainers made him to resist the government's bait.

As I remember few years back and even now the Kenyan and other African country long-distance runners were a rage. Usain bolt and others won international awards and fame. due to individual effort. So a thought came to our great political leaders to train our own peoples. There is a Siddi community in the north Kanara who is of African origin. So the government took them to the SAI Bangalore and started training them. These people having no connections and political afflictions were treated in poor conditions and not properly trained. The activity gradually fizzled out and we could not see any national or international athlete. Although the intention was good , the execution was poor. The same students, if they were trained in a private academy, would have fared better.

Becoming an athlete requires long time training, dedication and also capability to lose or win.It is a gradual process of failure and success. Winning Kambala race cannot make you a strong international racer unless you are trained properly.

The same would have been the case of Mr. Gowda. The Govt to satisfy their whims would have put him on a trial without any long time training and would have junked him. He would have lost his Kambala fame and also fake international fame.

I congratulate Mr. Gowda for his achievement in the Kambala filed and let him win more awards in this field and make a living and keep his family happy, Rather living in mirage of national or international fame of sports for which he is not trained. Let Kambala make him international
