Puttur, Feb 17: In a four-year-old case, the court has found that the charge of sexually harassing a minor girl at Nekkilady levelled against the accused four years back has been proved. However, the accused failed to present self at the court on the day of the judgement. Therefore, the court has issued arrest warrant for the accused, and posted the case to February 20 to pronounce the quantum of the sentence.

A case had been registered against Ravi Naik from Nekkilady in the taluk on October 21, 2016, accusing him of sexually harassing a minor girl, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The accused, who was arrested, was in judicial custody for sometime before getting released on bail.

The police, who investigated the case, had filed charge sheet. The case, which was initially heard at Mangaluru court, was later transferred to the district additional sessions court at Puttur. The court here, which conducted hearing, pronounced the accused to be guilty of the charges on February 14.

The accused was present in the court that day. The verdict on the quantum of sentence was posted to February 15. But the accused failed to appear in the court on February 15. Therefore, the court ordered Uppinangady police through warrant to arrest the accused, duly cancelling the bail granted to him earlier.
