Mangaluru Feb 16: After Karnataka Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri announced a special session to mark the 70th year of the Constitution on March 2 and 3, MLC Ivan D’Souza alleged the session has a hidden agenda.

Addressing media here on Saturday, February 15, D’Souza called the upcoming session ‘unconstitutional’. “Looking at the discussions planned in this session, it seems it is designed to justify the National Registry of Citizens and Citizenship Amendment Act. It looks like the government and the speaker are misusing their power. The decision to hold special discussions during the session needs to be taken by Business Advisory Committee (BAC). However, as this did not happen, there is no scope in holding such a discussion. If something has to be discussed, then discuss about the 100 year old IPC, CRPC and Land Revenue Act. What is need to discuss about constitution?” questioned Ivan D’Souza.

"I welcome High Court’s decision, which stated imposing section 144 in the city was illegal. Section 144 was imposed one day prior to the golibar incident which claimed two lives. District-in-charge minister, home minister and chief minister have to apologize to families of the deceased,” said Ivan D’Souza.
