Margoa: 10,000 people to derive benefit of Govt-organized Eye Camp at Sattari

Margao, Oct 26: As part of the government initiative to take healthcare facilities to the door steps of the people, it has been decided to hold a series of eye camps in the state. Such a camp was organized at Verna, recently and several people from Salcete and Mormugao taluks inflicted with an eye ailment benifitted from the same.

Similar eye camp which is being organized by Sattari Yuva Morcha in association with Directorate of Health Services and Goa Medical College at Morlem in Sattari taluk was visited by speaker of Goa legislative assembly Pratapsingh Rane and health minister Vishvwajit P Rane on Monday October 26.

According to organizers the camp which will conclude on Thursday October 29 will benefit people hailing from Sattari taluk and Usgao area, who will be thoroughly diagnosed for eye disease and will be given free spectacles. About 10,000 people are expected to be examined during the four-day eye camp. A team consists of qualified eye specialists will examine the people. It is sponsored by ‘One Sight Foundation’ a group of Luxottica, American based NGO.

Speaking at the programme, health minister Vishwajit Rane said that holding of an eye camp is part of the government endeavour to improve the healthcare facilities and make them available to the needy and poor. He appealed to the people from Sattari to derive the maximum benefit of the camp. He said people diagnosed with complicated eye ailment will be referred to GMC for treatment.

Former MLA Ashok Parab, Suman Gawas, zilla panchayat member Dattaram Sardessai joint secretary (health), director of Directorate of Health Services Dr Rajnanda Desai, Vinod Shinde, Natasha Lima Leitao and associate vice-president Luxottica Group, Umesh Gulelkar were present.
