Kaup, Feb 13: The police here, with the support of the members of the general public, succeeded in arresting four persons on Tuesday. They have been accused of making people believe that they were representatives of Buntara Mathr Sangha, and collecting subscription for a privately owned publication 'Buntara Mitra'.

On being produced n the court, they were remanded to judicial custody for 15 days. The arrested persons are from Mangaluru, and their names have been given as Nalin Kumar Rai (56), Gurudath (48), Malini (49) and Reshma (30).

The foursome had arrived at Kaup from Manglauru in a car. They claimed that they were deputed by Buntara Sangha. The group went to some houses in Koppalangady area and collected money. Gulabi Shedthi and Prathima Shetty from Koppalangady contributed Rs 500 and Rs 3,000 respectively, believing that they were contributing for a cause supported by Buntara Sangha. The locals got suspicious about the group at this stage and made enquirers with Buntara Sangha, and got confirmation that the Sangha had nothing to do with this group.

Some local people then contacted leaders of Buntara Sangha who came there and questioned the four people. As the four failed to provide any convincing clarifications, they were handed over to the police. On the basis of complaint filed by Gulabi Shedthi, a case of cheating and duping has been registered in Kaup police station against them.
