Karkala, Oct 25: Reportedly, the naxals have camped in the forests adjacent to Koodlu, Ajjoli and Tingale villages at the foot of the Western Ghats located in the taluk, since the last about a month.
The gang of naxals, with about a dozen members, reportedly visited individual houses located in Koodlu village on October 23. While the Anti Naxal Force and the civilian policemen are conducting combing operations elsewhere, the naxals visited homes here, and sought rice, tea and coffee from the families.
The naxals reportedly expressed their strong opposition to the proposed Koodlu hydro electric generation project, and distributed pamphlets asking people to oppose the project. It may be recalled, that the people in the rural areas are angry over the frequent power cuts. At the same time, there are others oppose the power projects in the guise of protection of nature. Different organizations have been fighting for different causes. Perhaps, these stands taken by the people, which are diametrically opposite to each other, are coming in handy for the naxals, as they seem to be getting some sympathizers from both these sides.
