Mangalore, Oct 22: The annual 'Kantavara Puraskara' being given annually by Kantavara Kannada Sangh through the Mogasale Foundation, will be handed over on November 1 during the Rajyotsava celebrations to three distinguished personalities, to be organized at the Pampa Mahakavi Auditorium of Kantavara Kannada Bhavan at 3.30 pm.
Well-known writer, Prof Ramadas from Udupi, who has authored seven collections of poems, seven plays, six radio plays, four novels, two collections of short stories and four collections of critical reviews and who shot into fame with his biography, 'Elenimbe', is one of the persons chosen for this honour. Ramadas is known for his straight talk and mature ideas. He has already won several awards like Kadengodlu, Muddana, Perla Kavya Prashasti, Nataka Academy felicitation, Ugrana Prashasti etc. He will be presented the 'Kantavara Sahitya Puraskara’.
Bajakkala Ganapati Bhat, who has fully devoted himself to music, has settled in Kanyana village since the last five decades. He has in-depth knowledge of music and his works, 'Abhyasa Ganavali' and 'Prabhagana' have enabled starters to get the knowledge music in clear, simple words. He is being given the 'Kantavara Lalitakala (Sangeeta) Puraskara’.
Manipal Aruna Kumari has excellent hold over classical music and violin. She also is a well-known Veena exponent and has secured MA in sociology. She has trained hundreds of disciples and has performed in hundreds of programmes. She is being awarded with the 'Kantavara Lalitakakala (Sangeeta) Puraskara.
Former state Kannada Sahitya Parishat president, Harikrishna Punaroor, will confer the awards. Manipal Vikasa Bharatiya Trust managing trustee, K M Udupa, will preside. On this occasion, the disciples of Bajakkala Ganapati Bhat will present a musical programme.
