Udupi, Oct 21: The postgraduate department of social work, government first grade college, Tenkanidiyoor here, had organized a one-day seminar on the 'Relevance of Social Work Today' at Mahila Samaj Bhavan in the city on Wednesday October 21.
The district Lokayukta deputy superintendent of police, Prabhudeva B Mane, inaugurated the seminar. He analyzed, that the concept of social service today, is the same that was preached and popularized by Mahatma Gandhi with the term, 'selfless service'. The students should not just concentrate on getting educated and bagging an employment. They should also give importance to social service in their lives, which in turn, results in the upholding of human values, he said.
Mangalore University's department of social work coordinator, Leena Ashok, participated as the chief guest. Mahila Samaj president Jayanti Shivaji Shetty, Dr Giridhar Rao, Dr Duggappa Kajekar and Anil Palan were the guests of honour. College principal G Yogananda presided. Sahana Supriya welcomed. Shagufta Bibi compered the programme.
