Mangaluru, Feb 8: The state government has appointed Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde as the chairman of Coastal Development Authority having its office here. Hegde, who is a senior advocate, happens to be the immediate past Udupi district BJP president.
The said authority has jurisdiction over Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Dakshina Kannada districts. Hegde appears to have been rewarded for his organizational skills during his term as the district BJP president during which he had successfully faced a number of elections.
Ratnakar Hegde had functioned twice as the president of Udupi District Bar Association and also as syndicate member of law university, president of Agricultural Produce Market Committee Udupi, director of Karnataka State Marketing Board, member of the governing council of Shirva Vidyavardhaka Sangha, and convener of Vidyavardhaka Central School.
Hegde belongs to the prestigious Mattaru Paradi lineage from Shirva village. He is involved with a number of social, religious and political outfits.
