Mangaluru, Feb 7: Department of Dermatology conducted Guest Lecture at Father Muller Medical College in the city on February 6 at the Conference Hall. This programme was organized to commemorate Anti-leprosy Day.
The programme began with the inauguration ceremony. Dr Sukumar D, Prof & HOD welcomed the gathering. Fr Ajith B Menezes, administrator FMMC gave the presidential address. Dr Jayaprakash Alva, dean FMMC and guest speaker Dr Derek Lobo also graced the Dais during the inaugural function. Dr Nanda Kishore B introduced the speaker to the audience. Guest speaker Dr Derek Lobo was felicitated for his contribution to the field of Leprosy. The inaugural function concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Ganesh Kamath H.
Dr Derek Lobo, retired in April 2007 from the United Nations-World Health Organisation (WHO) after a highly successful professional career with WHO of 13 Years. Prior to that, he worked with two International NGOs Emmaus - Switzerland and German TB/Leprosy Association for 24 years. His career, spanning 37 years, was dedicated to the control and elimination of poverty-related diseases such as Leprosy, TB, Malaria, Filaria and other neglected tropical diseases. He also worked as Director of GREMALTES Referral Hospital & Leprosy Centre in Chennai from 1984 to 1994.
He delivered a lecture on the subject ‘Skewed Health Policies of India: Health Indicators - where does India Stand ?, Burden of Communicable Diseases - where does India stand ? And Leprosy Elimination – Where does India stand?’
The guest lecture was well attended by staff, post graduates of medical and nursing departments of Father Muller Medical College Hospital.
