Mangalore, Oct 20: Kavita Trust, which promotes Konkani poetry, has instituted the 'Mathias family Kavita award'. Joseph Mathias, Dubai, is the generous patron behind this award which is named after his family residing at Kuppepadav.
Presented through the Kavita Trust, the award consists of a cash award of Rs 10,000, a citation letter, and memento.
Accordingly, Konkani poetry, songs, devotional hymns, their translation, general critical works, or articles in Konkani about poetry in other languages, besides research and exclusive contributions to Konkani poetry by people of Indian origin residing across the world, will be eligible for this award.
The writer or poet should have completed at least a decade in Konkani literature and have some notable contributions to the language to their credit. The award will not be given posthumously. Mathias family Kavita award will be presented during Kavita Fest in January 2010.
Last year the award was bestowed on Aruna Rao Kundaje, konkani poetess residing in Mumbai.
The last date to send in nominations will be November 15. The nominations should be accompanied with five reasons to consider the person for the award. As much information as possible will have to be provided on his/her works, along with testimonials. Contact:
