Hassan, Feb 6: The police, who have succeeded in cracking a case in which a lady was abducted, and the customary Mangalsutra was forcibly tied around her neck forcibly in spite of her forceful opposition, have arrested three of the accused within a day of the incident. They are searching for two other accused including the driver of the car used for the filmy adventure.
The video of kidnap had become viral, and the police had formed a team to find out the culprits. Manu Kumar (30) from Kudukundi village, Arasikere taluk, Praveen Kumar (23) of the same village, and Tarabenahalli Vinay (25) has been arrested. District superintendent of police (SP) Srinivas Gowda, said at a press conference on Wednesday, that the other accused Sandeep (26) and car driver, Gandhi, are absconding.
The girl is from Dudda revenue division of Hassan taluk. Her maternal uncle's son, Manu Kumar, had sought the permission of the girl's father to marry her, and the father had consented. Therefore he had kidnapped the girl with the support of friends, the SP explained.
The girl used to commute to Hassan from her village everyday for getting training in tailoring. She was kidnapped in filmy fashion. As she did not return home from tailoring class, her father had complained to Dudda police on February 4.
After the complaint was registered, a team comprising assistant superintendent of police Nandini, deputy superintendent of police Puttaswamy Gowda, circle police inspector Satyanarayana and sub-inspector Madhu, was formed to investigate the case. By then the video showing the kidnap and tying of the Mangalsutra had become viral in social websites. The police who intensifed their search, found out that the accused were in Bengaluru and Ramanagara, and rescued the girl.
After he learnt that his daughter had been abducted and forcibly married, the girl's father, who was overtaken by emotion, tried to end his life by consuming excessive dose of sleeping pills. He was immediately admitted into a private hospital here, and he is now recovering, family sources stated.
The girl appeared in Dudda police station and filed written complaint about the abduction and tying of Mangalsutra signifying her marriage. The SP said that case was registered against the accused based on her statement and the accused were produced in the court. The SP said that the case was registered after going through the video footage of the abduction and the statement of the girl. He said that even if the concerned enter into a compromise later, the police will continue to do their duty of following up the case as per law, and that there is no question of protecting the accused.
