Mangaluru, Feb 5: “If the nation has to make progress, then it is very important for youth to imbibe patriotism,” said Ramakrishna Rao, a former serviceman who spoke at the valedictory ceremony of ‘Musical Tribute to the Nation’, an inter-college patriotic song contest organized by JCI Ganeshpura and Sri Gokarnanatheshwara College, here on the occasion of Republic Day.
Dr Renuka K, principal of Sri Gokarnanatheshwara College inaugurated the contest by lighting the lamp. She appreciated the activities of JCI Ganeshpura which are focussed on nation and community building.
Vasanth Kumar Karandoor, eminent advocate and secretary of Sri Venkatesha Shivabhakthi Yoga Sangha was the chief guest on the occasion.
Shubha Sharath, president of Jaceerette wing of JCI Ganeshpura presided over the function and welcomed the gathering.
Deepak Ganguly, zonal officer of Zone 15 and Smitha P Holla, zonal coordinator for ‘Youth Empowerment and Expansion of Women’s Wing’ were the guests of honour.
Ten teams from the city participated in a singing contest. H Venkatesh Rao, Murlidhar Kamath and Smitha P Holla officiated as judges for the contest. St Aloysius College bagged the first prize, while Padua College ranked second and Canara College stood third. Usha Mandar Kale compered the programme.
Ramakrishna Rao was respectfully felicitated on the occasion. President of JCI Ganeshpura Sharath Kumar, immediate past-president Uday Kumar, Shreesha Karmaran, secretary Lakshmeesh Anchan, Bharath, Chandan, Bharathi Shreesha, Shashikumar, Arun, Venugopal, Chaitra, JCLT Hrithik and others were present.
